Abstract. Today teaching languages is not about grammar and vocabulary. It's about helping the student to understand and use the language in a way. This paper looks at the links between language, culture and teaching. It's based on the work of J.J. Jalolov and on some of the classic theory about language and culture. The aim is to demonstrate how the inclusion of culture in language teaching can help the student to communicate more effectively across cultures.
