Abstract. Inflammation is one of the most important protective and adaptive responses of the human body to tissue injury, infection, and other harmful factors. It is a complex pathological process involving vascular reactions, changes in microcirculation, leukocyte migration, and the release of inflammatory mediators. The main purpose of inflammation is to eliminate the damaging factor, remove damaged tissue, and create favorable conditions for tissue repair and regeneration. However, excessive or prolonged inflammation may cause tissue damage and contribute to the development of various diseases. This article discusses the main pathophysiological mechanisms of inflammation, including alteration, exudation, leukocyte emigration, and proliferation. The role of inflammatory mediators and the significance of inflammation in maintaining homeostasis and protecting the organism are also considered.
