Abstract

This article analyzes the role and significance of accurate and precise
classification of narcotic substances in the activities of customs authorities. The
classification of narcotic drugs based on their chemical structure, pharmacological
properties, and legal status increases the efficiency of customs control. Harmonization
of classification with major international standards and national legislation serves as
an important tool in combating smuggling, illicit trade, and cross-border trafficking of
narcotic substances. The article also examines the main challenges in the classification
process and proposes solutions, as well as discusses expert practices and the analysis
of joint international customs operations.
