Abstract

The communicative approach is one of the most widely used and effective
methods in modern English language teaching. It focuses on developing learners’
communicative competence, which includes the ability to use English effectively in
real-life situations. Unlike traditional methods that emphasize grammar memorization
and translation, the communicative approach prioritizes interaction, meaning, and
fluency. This paper examines the importance of the communicative approach, its main
principles, advantages, challenges, and its role in improving learners’ language skills.
The study concludes that this approach significantly enhances students’ motivation,
confidence, and practical language use in educational environments.
