Abstract

The article examines common errors made by Uzbek learners of English in using
prepositions. Main attention is given to unnecessary prepositions, missing
prepositions, and unsuitable preposition choice in learner writing. The study uses error
analysis, descriptive review, and contrastive observation. Recent research on Uzbek
learners and wider EFL contexts is reviewed to explain the causes of difficulty.
Published learner extracts are used in the discussion section to show how errors appear
in short written sentences. The analysis shows that many mistakes are connected with
first-language transfer, literal translation, and incomplete knowledge of English verb
patterns. The article also shows that prepositions should be taught through complete
phrases, not only through isolated word meanings. The expected result is a clearer view
of the main error types and practical teaching directions. The novelty of the article lies
in a focused explanation of preposition errors in the Uzbek EFL context through recent
evidence and simple extract-based discussion.
