This article presents a study of the complex formation between
the nitrogen-containing azo derivative of gossypol (compound NY-I) and
chromium(III) ions, together with the physicochemical properties of the resulting
complex. The phenolic and aromatic structure of gossypol, its reactivity through azo
derivatives, and the coordination activity of chromium ions were analyzed. During the
experiment, the optimal wavelength, solution pH, buffer composition, order of reagent
addition, and the concentration range obeying the Beer–Lambert law were determined.
The structure of the synthesized gossypol–chromium complex was confirmed by IR
spectroscopy. Based on the results, the stability, structural features, and potential
applications of the complex were evaluated. The study is of practical relevance for
coordination chemistry, environmental monitoring, and biomedicine.

1. It was established that the complex’s maximum absorption wavelength is
λmax = 492 nm and the optimal medium pH is 7.1.
2. It was proven that the universal buffer solution (H3PO4 + CH3COOH +
H3BO3 + NaOH) gives a higher optical density than the ammonia buffer.
3. It was established that the complex solution remains stable for 30 minutes,
and that adding the reagents in the “reagent–chromium–buffer” order ensures
maximum yield.
4. The developed method obeys the Beer–Lambert law in the range 60–180
µg/25 ml of chromium, making it suitable for quantitative determination.
5. The results of IR-spectroscopic analysis confirmed that the NY-I ligand forms
a coordination bond with the Cr3+ ion through its phenolic –OH and azomethine
CH=N– groups; the reaction yield was 80%.
