SPACED RETRIEVAL FOR DEVELOPING FUTURE OFFICERS’ PROFESSIONAL ENGLISH VOCABULARY IN A DIGITAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Keywords:
spaced retrieval, future officers, professional English, lexical competence, digital practice, delayed retention, contextual production.Abstract
This article proposes a spaced retrieval design for professional English
vocabulary learning in military higher education. The central problem is the difference
between successful performance immediately after study and the ability to retrieve and
use lexical units later. The paper distinguishes repeated exposure, recognition, cued
recall and contextual production. A proposed sequence integrates short digital practice
with classroom reporting tasks and an English–Uzbek–Russian glossary. Illustrative
schedules, task specifications, feedback rules and a pilot protocol are provided.
Attention is given to unequal access, missed sessions, self-rating and the risk of
confusing platform activity with learning. The contribution is an instructional design
proposal rather than an empirical intervention report. No retention gains or optimal
intervals are claimed for future officers without local testing.
