A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF NATURE-RELATED PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN UZBEK AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES: A COGNITIVE AND CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

This dissertation article presents a comprehensive comparative
analysis of nature-related phraseological units (PUs) in the Uzbek and English
languages, viewed through a cognitive and cultural linguistic lens. The study
investigates how natural elements such as flora, fauna, and meteorological phenomena
are conceptualized and integrated into idiomatic expressions in both linguistic
systems. The methodology involves a qualitative analysis of PUs extracted from
prominent phraseological dictionaries and corpora of each language, focusing on their
semantic structures, metaphorical mappings, and cultural connotations. Results reveal
significant overlap in universal human experiences reflected through nature metaphors
e.g., bravery, diligence but also profound divergences influenced by distinct
geographical environments, historical trajectories, and socio-cultural values. The
discussion critically interprets these findings, highlighting the role of cultural
specificity in shaping the "linguistic picture of the world" and emphasizing the
implications for cross-cultural communication and translation.
