Abstract

Lexicology is one of the foundational branches of linguistics,
dedicated to studying the vocabulary of a language. This article discusses the current
problems and future prospects of lexicological research. One of the central challenges
involves examining the lexical units of diverse languages and their interrelations, as
well as analyzing vocabulary shifts resulting from linguistic evolution. Special
attention is paid to the impact of socio-cultural factors on the lexical system of a
language, alongside the interaction of vocabulary with other linguistic levels. Within
the scope of promising research areas in lexicology, this paper highlights the study of
modern lexical phenomena, such as neologisms and archaisms, including their
functioning and influence on language practice. Furthermore, investigating lexical
semantics, word structure, and the relationship between vocabulary and culture
remains highly significant. In general, lexicology continues to be a crucial domain of
linguistic inquiry, as the lexical composition of a language inherently reflects the
mentality and culture of its speakers. Awareness of current issues and research
prospects in lexicology is essential for a deeper understanding of linguistic phenomena
and their operational dynamics.
