If an English student from twenty years ago walked onto a high school or
university campus today, they might feel like they need a translator. They wouldn’t

To outsiders, student slang can seem confusing or even frustrating. However, it
represents the natural, vibrant evolution of the English language. Students aren't
ruining English; they are adapting it to fit a fast, interconnected, digital reality. By
using slang, they form tighter friendships, cope with academic stress through humor,
and learn the critical life skill of adjusting their communication style to fit their
audience.
