Abstract

Pragmatics is a branch of linguistics that studies how language is used
in context and how speakers convey meanings that go beyond the literal interpretation
of words. Politeness is one of the most important aspects of communication, as it helps
maintain social harmony and fosters effective interpersonal relationships. In English,
politeness strategies are closely connected with pragmatic principles because speakers
often adjust their language according to social situations, cultural norms, and
communicative intentions.
