HIGH-SENSITIVITY CARDIAC TROPONIN ASSAYS: ANALYTICAL PERFORMANCE, CLINICAL INTERPRETATION, AND DIAGNOSTIC VALUE IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

Acute myocardial infarction remains a major cause of
cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cardiac troponins are the most
reliable biomarkers for the detection of myocardial injury due to their high sensitivity
and specificity. Recent advances in laboratory diagnostics have led to the development
of high-sensitivity troponin assays, enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis of
acute coronary syndromes. This review highlights the analytical and clinical
characteristics of cardiac troponin testing, including assay performance, diagnostic
value, and challenges related to result interpretation. Despite significant
improvements in analytical accuracy, effective clinical application requires careful
integration of laboratory findings with patient assessment and other diagnostic data.
A thorough understanding of troponin assay characteristics is essential for timely
diagnosis and improved cardiovascular outcomes.
