COMMUNICATION-AWARE TWO-POINT CARGO UAV DELIVERY SYSTEM: DESIGN, MODELING, AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Abstract
Abstract: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly adopted for cargo delivery due to their flexibility and rapid deployment. However, reliable air-to-ground communication remains a critical challenge, particularly for two-point delivery missions where connectivity must be preserved across takeoff, cruise, payload release, and return phases. This paper presents a communication-aware two-point cargo UAV delivery system inspired by real experimental flights. The proposed framework integrates mission planning with adaptive communication management to mitigate interference, ensure link robustness, and improve mission reliability. Interference-aware modeling, antenna height protection, and angular protection schemes are developed and evaluated. Experimental results demonstrate improved communication uptime, reduced latency, and higher mission success rates compared to conventional non-adaptive control strategies.
