Abstract

Teaching English as a foreign language requires the effective application of appropriate teaching methods and approaches. The choice of a teaching method has a significant influence on students’ motivation, participation, language acquisition, communication skills, and overall learning outcomes. This article examines the role of different methods in English language teaching and analyzes their importance in developing learners’ communicative competence. Particular attention is given to the Grammar-Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio-Lingual Method, Communicative Language Teaching, Task-Based Language Teaching, and modern technology-supported approaches. The article emphasizes that no single method can meet the needs of all learners and that teachers should select and combine methods according to students’ age, language level, learning objectives, classroom conditions, and individual differences. The integration of traditional and modern approaches can create a more effective, interactive, and learner-centered English language learning environment.
