Abstract

This study explores the linguistic and stylistic interpretation of Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby”, which occupies a central place in twentieth-century American literature. The aim of the research is to analyze the linguistic means and stylistic devices through which the author reveals the main ideas of the novel and shapes its artistic integrity. The object of the study is the literary text of “The Great Gatsby”, with particular attention paid to narrative structure, language features, character speech, and expressive stylistic devices.

The research is based on descriptive, contextual, and interpretative methods of literary analysis. These methods make it possible to examine the interaction between language and meaning, to identify the dominant stylistic devices, and to reveal their role in conveying the author’s attitude towards the characters and the depicted social reality. The analysis demonstrates that Fitzgerald’s use of symbolism, metaphor, irony, and expressive syntax plays a crucial role in exposing the illusion of the American Dream and the moral emptiness of the Jazz Age society.
