Abstract

Obesity has become a major global public health concern and is recognized as a significant risk factor affecting women’s reproductive health. Excess body weight contributes to hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction, all of which can impair normal reproductive function. This article reviews the impact of obesity on female reproductive health, with particular emphasis on menstrual irregularities, ovulatory dysfunction, infertility, pregnancy complications, and adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. The relationship between obesity and reproductive disorders, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and recurrent pregnancy loss, is also discussed. Early prevention, weight management, healthy lifestyle interventions, and timely medical care play a crucial role in improving fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Raising awareness of obesity-related reproductive risks is essential for promoting women's health and reducing long-term health complications.
