THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING ENGLISH: OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES, AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Abstract

Technology has become an integral part of modern education, transforming the ways in which languages are taught and learned. In the field of English Language Teaching (ELT), technological innovations such as online learning platforms, mobile applications, virtual classrooms, artificial intelligence, and digital communication tools have significantly enhanced teaching effectiveness and student engagement. Technology provides learners with access to authentic language resources, personalized learning experiences, and opportunities for interactive communication. However, the integration of technology into English language teaching also presents several challenges, including unequal access to digital resources, technological dependence, and concerns regarding the quality of online learning. This review paper examines the role of technology in teaching English by analyzing its benefits, limitations, and future implications. The study concludes that technology has become an essential component of language education and that its effective integration can significantly improve learning outcomes when combined with appropriate pedagogical strategies.
