Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced educational practices across the globe, particularly in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, Duolingo, and intelligent tutoring systems have introduced innovative approaches to language instruction, enabling personalized learning experiences, immediate feedback, and enhanced learner engagement. This article examines the opportunities and challenges associated with the integration of AI in English language teaching at vocational colleges. The study is based on an analysis of contemporary literature, educational reports, and practical experiences related to AI-assisted language learning. The findings indicate that AI can improve students’ language proficiency, foster learner autonomy, and support teachers in instructional planning and assessment. However, challenges such as academic integrity concerns, overreliance on technology, data privacy issues, and the potential reduction of critical thinking skills must also be considered. The article argues that AI should be viewed as a complementary educational tool rather than a replacement for human teachers. Effective implementation requires digital literacy, ethical guidelines, and pedagogically sound integration strategies. The study concludes that the balanced use of AI technologies can contribute to more effective English language teaching and learning in vocational education settings.
