The translation of children’s literature requires not only linguistic competence but also cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the target audience’s cognitive and emotional characteristics. One of the major challenges in translating realistic children’s texts is maintaining the national color of the source text while ensuring pragmatic adaptation for readers from another cultural background. This paper examines the difficulties associated with preserving cultural specificity and achieving communicative effectiveness in the translation of The Little Boy with Five Children. The study analyzes culture-bound elements, linguistic peculiarities, and pragmatic strategies employed by translators to balance authenticity and readability. The findings demonstrate that successful translation of realistic children’s literature depends on the translator’s ability to preserve the original cultural atmosphere while adapting the text to the expectations and comprehension level of young readers.
