PROVERBS AS A TOOL FOR IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILLS IN EFL CLASSES

This article explores the pedagogical effectiveness of using proverbs to improve speaking skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Speaking is often considered the most difficult skill for language learners due to psychological, linguistic, and educational barriers. The study investigates how proverbs can support vocabulary development, pronunciation accuracy, fluency, and communicative competence. A qualitative approach based on classroom observation and literature analysis was used. The findings reveal that proverbs create a motivating and interactive learning environment where students are more willing to participate in speaking tasks. Furthermore, proverbs provide cultural and linguistic authenticity that helps learners communicate more naturally. The study concludes that integrating proverbs into EFL speaking instruction significantly enhances learners’ oral communication abilities
