THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL AWARENESS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

The growing importance of intercultural communication in contemporary society has increased the need for culturally informed foreign language education. Language learning today extends beyond grammar and vocabulary acquisition and includes understanding cultural values, beliefs, traditions, and communication patterns. This article examines the significance of cultural awareness in foreign language teaching and its contribution to communicative competence. The study investigates theoretical perspectives on the relationship between language and culture and discusses practical approaches for integrating cultural elements into language instruction. The findings indicate that cultural awareness enhances language proficiency, learner motivation, intercultural competence, and effective communication. The article concludes that successful foreign language teaching requires the integration of both linguistic and cultural dimensions.
