“CHALLENGES OF LEGAL TRANSLATION IN COURT PROCEEDINGS”

Abstract

The main difficulties in translating legal jargon from English into Uzbek in international court proceedings are examined in this article. The study focuses on the intricacy of legal translation brought about by variations in judicial institutions, legal systems, and procedural customs. Problematic legal phrases like Magistrates' Court and Crown Court, which have no direct parallels in the Uzbek legal system, receive particular attention. The essay examines a number of translation techniques, such as explanatory adaptation, transliteration, functional equivalency, and descriptive translation. Additionally, using instances like charge, appeal, party, and settlement, the study examines the problem of polysemy in legal discourse. The study shows that literal translation frequently results in misunderstandings and legal errors. Thus, in addition to language proficiency, competent legal translation necessitates a thorough understanding of judicial systems, comparative law, and contextual interpretation. The paper concludes that efficient international legal communication, procedural accuracy, and clarity all depend on proper legal translation.
