This article examines the pragmatic and functional-semantic characteristics of anthroponyms used in O‘tkir Hoshimov’s short stories “Xayollarga bo‘laman tutqun” and “Oq bulut, oppoq bulut”. In particular, the study highlights the role of anthroponyms in shaping literary images, individualizing characters, and revealing the ideological and artistic content of the works. The article establishes the intrinsic relationship between personal names and their semantic layers, demonstrating through examples how anthroponyms function as pragmatic devices in literary texts. Furthermore, the research analyzes how anthroponyms depict the internal experiences, psychological states, and portraits of characters, as well as their individual and social traits. In both stories, the theme of love is interpreted as the leading ideological direction, with literary images reflecting human susceptibility to emotions, hasty decision-making, and their negative consequences. The findings indicate that in Hoshimov’s works, anthroponyms serve not merely as nominative units but as artistic means carrying profound semantic and pragmatic significance.
