The article examines the features of German youth vocabulary recorded in lexicographic sources, focusing on the material of thematic dictionaries from Duden and the annual multilingual dictionaries from PONS. Three key characteristics of the youth sociolect are analysed: the productivity of compounding, the mass influx of anglicisms and the “Denglisch” phenomenon, and the connection between vocabulary and subcultural scenes. The paper reveals the main problems of lexicographic description, such as the lack of uniform stylistic and regional labels, the rapid obsolescence of lexical items (with an annual renewal rate of about 30%), and the tendency towards the commercialization of dictionaries. The conclusion points to the need for a comprehensive model for describing non-standard vocabulary, which remains a relevant challenge for modern German lexicography.
